From harvest to production

From harvest to production

The crops we import are certified and checked in accordance with the integrated management system that follows the European AGRO 2.1-2.2 standard. More specifically, everything that is grown is, residues from herbal medicines and fertilizers-free and as we are also ecologically conscious, we make sure to work with professionals who feed their crops with natural fertilizers, such as green manure and compost.

Green manure is achieved by the annual sowing of legumes (e.g. beans, vetch) or cereals (e.g. oats, barley) which are crushed and placed underground to start a composting process, thus creating a natural fertilizer.

Time and method of harvesting

The harvest starts around the end of October and ends around the end of January. The long harvest season is due to the professionalism of the farmers we work with, who only harvest crops that are fully ripe and in the right condition for harvesting.

The harvest is placed in plastic, well-ventilated boxes, where it is protected from rain, water and any kind of moisture.

This procedure is followed because if the crop is moist or remains in the warehouse for several days, it will begin to deteriorate and the final product will have an increased acidity and while also not having the required quality characteristics.
